LaVern Meese, 78, Oblong, Illinois passed away at 7:44 p.m. Saturday, July 21, 2012 at the Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, Illinois.  Born in Crawford County, Illinois on June 5, 1934, he was the son of John Robert Meese and Cora Elizabeth (Inboden) Meese.  He served with the U. S. Army during the Berlin Crisis as a Sergeant.  He was employed with Triple “B” Oil Company for 1 year; Shivers Coop, Hutsonville, IL for 7 1/2 years; Barber Green, Dekalb, IL for 8 years and he also worked construction for many years.  He was a member of the Bible Chapel Church, rural Robinson, Illinois where he was a substitute Sunday School teacher and he was an Ordained Deacon.  LaVern and Donna had previously lived in Waterman, Illinois and they moved back to Oblong in 1974. His hobbies included working in his garden, playing his harmonica and attending church services.

On May 16, 1958, he married Donna Milam, who preceded him in death on March 15, 2012.  Also preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers Ernest Ray and Gary Meese; a sister, Josephine “Josie” Rhoten and a daughter-in-law, Jean Meese.

LaVern is survived by a son, Billie Don Meese; two daughters and sons-in-law, Patty & Ed Higgins and Pam & Jerry Merideth; seven grandchildren, Brandy Dunn, Dustin Meese,, Marty Merideth, Dutches Merideth – Lowe, Brandy Higgins, Cody Higgins and Rachel Higgins; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Bro. Joe Griffith will officiate the funeral service with burial to follow in the Hardinville Cemetery, Hardinville, Illinois.
